PARKSIDE RESIDENCE

Combining knowledge from the previous three projects of domestic spaces, Horizontal Home, Vertical Home, and Section Home, this project emphasizes both the surrounding community and the function of the spaces within. With 6 variations of homes, the interlocking of different groups of people allows for a more cohesive and functional cohousing system. With a centered focus around active families, Parkside Residences combines numerous variations of homes to accommodate both the families existing on the site, as well as welcoming new families to the area. Featuring a continuous, snaking volume on the Western side of the site, the East side is dedicated toward a central park for the community that bleeds over and under. This is a completely public and open area, whereas the stepping-back terraces within the project provide select homes with a more privatized outdoor experience. The park features a playground for young children as well as a sunken, started amphitheater. As the project snakes around the existing projects, Frankie and Johnny’s was relocated to a more suitable spot for both the restaurant as well as the community. Now located on the corner of Tchoupitoulas and Joseph Street, there is more foot traffic as well as an increase in area for the establishment.
